What is CUET?
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is an entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate courses offered by 90+ universities, including 45 Central Universities with the likes of Delhi University, BHU, Jamia Millia Islamia, JNU, AMU, University of Allahabad, and University of Hyderabad. The exam will test one’s language aptitude, subject knowledge, and general mental ability.
In case of a tie in CUET score, who gets the seat in DU?
In case of a tie between 2 or more students with the same CUET score choosing the same college and course, their class 12th boards marks (Best of 3, 4, and 5 subsequently) will be considered. Yet a tie, the age will be the final tiebreaker. The older student will get the seat.
How many Central Universities accept CUET scores for admissions?
CUET scores will be used for admissions to undergraduate courses of 45 Central Universities including Delhi University, BHU, Jamia Milia Islamia, JNU, AMU, University of Allahabad, University of Hyderabad among others. TISS and seven other institutions have also shown their eagerness to accept CUET Scores for admissions to their undergraduate courses.
What will be the mode of CUET?
CUET will be conducted in online mode as a Computer-Based Test by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The CUET 2023 will be conducted from the fourth week of April onwards.
What is the syllabus for CUET?
CUET is designed to evaluate one’s understanding of language, knowledge of subjects studied in class XII and general reasoning and quantitative skills. The paper will comprise of three sections: Language, Subject Domain Test and General Aptitude Test.
What is the marking scheme of CUET? Is there any negative marking?
For every correct attempt, 5 marks will be awarded. For every incorrect attempt, 1 mark will be deducted. There will be no penalty for unattempted questions.
What is the duration of CUET?
CUET will be conducted in two slots (morning and afternoon). The morning slot will be of 3hrs. 15 mins. And the afternoon slot will be for 3hrs. 45mins.
Who can appear for CUET?
Any student desirous of taking admissions to undergraduate programs at the Universities participating in CUET must take the test. Admissions to all Central Universities including Delhi University, BHU, Jamia Millia Islamia, JNU, AMU, University of Allahabad, University of Hyderabad, and many other state and private universities (total 90), will be based on CUET scores and no direct weightage will be given to class XII boards marks.
Is CUET 2023 going to be tough?
Going by the past experience of CUET 2022, the test is expected to be moderately difficult to easy. CUET is a mix of General Ability Tests, understanding of language, and subjects studied in class XII. One can excel and score well if they are determined and focused; coupled with the right approach, practice, and preparation.
What is the cut-off for CUET?
CUET will only release the students’ scorecards. The cut-off will be decided by each of the participating Central Universities separately, for each program on offer. Each University will announce the cut-off for a program based on the number of applications they receive for the program.
Is there a limit to the number of attempts for CUET?
As of now, one can sit for the CUET multiple times. However, the Central Universities might have their own eligibility criteria for admission to their UG programs.
How many Courses/Universities can one apply through CUET?
A candidate can apply for multiple courses in any or all the Central Universities, based on fulfilment of the eligibility criteria as determined by respective universities.
I am appearing for the Class XII Boards exams. Am I eligible to appear for CUET?
Yes. One can appear for CUET even when one is due to appear for the Class XII Boards exams. But one will need to produce the marksheet/certificates about fulfilling the eligibility criteria for the Course/University applied, at the time of admissions.
Is CUET conducted once or twice a year?
CUET 2022 shall be conducted once, but from the academic year 2023, the test is likely to be conducted twice; giving candidates the opportunity to improve their scores.
Will Central Universities stop merit-based admissions after CUET is announced?
Yes, Only CUET scores will now be accepted for admissions to undergraduate programs in all the Central and many other Universities (90+) participating in CUET.
How will the admissions be done through CUET?
Admissions are handled at the level of each of the participating universities for the respective program. The relevant universities will decide the cut-off for each program based on the CUET scores of applicants.
I want to study B.Com. at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Will BHU conduct its own entrance test like earlier, or will its admission be based on CUET?
Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is a Central University founded in 1916. CUET 2022, and onwards, will be mandatory for all Central Universities in the country. Accordingly, BHU will not be conducting its own entrance any more for B.Com.; and will, instead, accept the scores of CUET.
Is there any Sample Paper available for CUET?

When can I register for CUET 2023? Has the exam date been announced?
The tentative dates for CUET 2023 have been announced. CUET 2023 will tentatively be held from the fourth week of April. Registration is expected to start in February 2023 and end in March.

A total of 45 Central Universities will adopt CUET; with each University having its own criteria for admissions using the CUET score. One can apply to as many Universities one wishes for. Decision to select the university should be based on cost, quality of education and placement opportunities among others.
What is the intake of CUET?
There are 45 Central Universities and a total of 90 universities participating in the CUET. Together, they will offer more than 2 lakh seats for various undergraduate courses.
I wish to pursue B.Com. (Hons) from one of the best colleges of Delhi University like SRCC, Hindu College, St. Stephen's College, to name a few. Will I have to write CUET?
Yes. SRCC, Hindu College, St. Stephens’ College are affiliated to University of Delhi, which is a Central University. Thus, those and all other colleges of Delhi University will follow the rules as decided by the University of Delhi.
I want to pursue a B.A (Hons) in Political Science from Delhi University. Will I be required to write CUET?
Yes. CUET is mandatory for admissions to undergraduate programs in all the colleges affiliated to a Central University. If you wish to study B.A (Hons) in any discipline from any of the affiliated colleges of Delhi University, you will need to take CUET.
I am a Science student; and wish to pursue a Five-Year Integrated M.Sc. program from University of Hyderabad. Will I have to appear for CUET, as the exam is for admissions to undergraduate courses only?
The University of Hyderabad offers Five-Year Integrated Master of Science (M.Sc.) in various disciplines. As it is a Central University, established in 1974 by an Act of the Parliament, it will be part of CUET; and will admit students based on CUET scores.
JNU, unlike other Central Universities, provides only language courses at the undergraduate level. Will JNU be also part of CUET?
Yes. Being a Central University, JNU will be part of CUET; and will accept CUET scores for admissions into its undergraduate courses.
